Harrogate home care company determined to help local seniors celebrate Christmas

Despite the restrictions in place to keep elderly and vulnerable people safe, Carefound Home Care in Harrogate have made an extra effort to bring gifts, mince pies and joy to local seniors this Christmas.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has impacted all of our lives. This is especially the case for elderly and vulnerable people for whom isolation and loneliness is a crisis which is intensifying. Whether older people live in the centre of a town like Harrogate or the countryside of the Yorkshire Dales, they have all experienced a change in their daily living and their ability to socialise and mix with both family and friends.

“During the early part of the pandemic many of our vulnerable elderly clients were required to ‘shield’, meaning that they were unable to spend precious time with their families. Clubs, groups and social activities closed overnight too in order to keep people safe which had an enormous impact. All of this resulted in isolation, lack of social interaction and increased loneliness across our elderly community in Yorkshire.”

“At Carefound Home Care we have done many things to respond to this such as embracing technology and using different tools and apps to help families, clients, and carers remain connected.”

“However, where we have seen some of the most positive outcomes has been in continuing to share celebrations such as birthdays, anniversaries and VE Day – even if it has meant bringing people together ‘virtually’. Some local celebrities from Yorkshire have also helped by sending personalised video messages for our carers to share with their clients.”

Lorna added: “We are determined to ensure that this Christmas is as enjoyable as possible for local seniors. Our carers are helping their clients decorate their homes with beautiful Christmas trees and decorations, they’re playing Christmas songs and singing carols together, even planning their Christmas lunches. Our local care management team is also busy delivering over 100 Christmas cards and mince pies to clients across Harrogate, Ripon, Wetherby and Yorkshire.”
