The Tour de France 2014 is coming to Yorkshire this weekend where it will travel from Leeds to Harrogate on Saturday, 5th July and from York to Sheffield on Sunday, 6th July. The cyclists will be officially waved off by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, marking the beginning of one of the largest events ever to come to the Yorkshire area.

Logistical preparations for the event are of course huge, with road closures and general travel disruptions in place. This will have a significant impact on services that rely on staff to travel, and home care services for the elderly are no exception.
Carefound Home Care support elderly people at home in the Harrogate, Ripon, Wetherby and North Leeds area of Yorkshire. This involves visiting clients for anything from 1 hour upwards, and can include a range of support from basic domestic, nutritional and companionship support, through to more complex care such as medication administration and dementia care. In preparation for Le Tour Yorkshire, the Carefound Home Care team have put in place thorough contingency plans including:
- Regular communication with clients and their wider families leading up to the event
- Specific route planning for the home care team so as to avoid closed or impacted roads
- 24-hour on-call system with backup plans in case phone communication is difficult
- Multiple backup plans for individual clients in case disruptions cause unexpected issues (including a Plan A and Plan B)
- Ranking of clients according to ‘risk priority’
Oliver Stirk, Director of Carefound Home Care, commented: “We are committed to ensuring that our elderly clients receive their home care service as normal over the weekend of Le Tour Yorkshire and have put systems in place to ensure this is the case. We are hugely grateful to our staff, our clients’ wider families and other local professionals for the extra lengths they are going to in helping us achieve this.”
