New Groups in Harrogate to Support Families Living with Dementia

Monday, 02nd October 2017

Two new groups have been launched in Harrogate to support relatives of people living with dementia.

Dementia Connection

Dementia Connection is a group for people who have a parent living with dementia and is aimed at enabling children as primary carers to share experiences and listen to invited experts who can offer practical help and support. The group is the brainchild of Louise Hanen who, after spending many years supporting families affected by dementia as Chair of the Acorn Committee, identified the need for there to be more support for children of those living with the condition.

New Beginnings

New Beginnings is a group for people who have sadly lost a loved one through dementia or have seen a loved one have to move into residential care. This is a self-support group to promote support and friendship. It was founded in May 2016 by Lynda Oliver, her daughter Terri Packwood and Carol Moor who collectively recognised a need for a targeted support group. Meetings are focussed around supporting people who have had similar life experiences and understand each other. People are very open and approachable, enjoy outings together and sometimes invite speakers to provide helpful input.

Details for the group are:
