‘Step Out Together’ for Your Yorkshire Dementia Charity

Friday, 17th August 2018

Yorkshire dementia charity, Dementia Forward, has launched a ‘Step Out Together’ campaign with actor John Middleton (Ashley from Emmerdale) to gather people together at a Castle to Castle walk near Harrogate on Sunday, 23 September 2018.

John Middleton is a patron of Dementia Forward and is spearheading the campaign which aims to encourage people to learn more about the work of Dementia Forward in Yorkshire and recruit supporters for this local charity. You can do this by walking from Knaresborough Castle to Ripley Castle on Sunday, 23 September 2018, starting at 10.00am.

The family friendly walk is approximately 6 miles long and all are welcome. There will also be an opportunity to enjoy refreshments at Ripley Town Hall and see the unveiling of Dementia Forward’s photographic exhibition, ‘Show me your care’, hearing the voices of the people of North Yorkshire around all things dementia.

Every three seconds somebody in the world is diagnosed with dementia. There are currently 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK, but closer to home there are approximately 10,000 people in North Yorkshire. This number is expected to increase to 13,573 by 2025 which is not too far in the future.

Please invite your family, friends and colleagues to join in on the day. You can also read more about the campaign in a letter from the Dementia Forward team by clicking here.
