Understanding Dementia Event – at Carefound on Saturday, 25 May 2013
Wednesday, 24th April 2013
Published 24 April 2013.
At Carefound we truly understand how difficult it can be for the families of those living with dementia. Our Understanding Dementia Event is an opportunity for families and organisations working in the community to meet with our professional home care team and learn more about how to help people with dementia at home. It also provides you with a chance to meet with others and share experiences.
Our guest speaker at this event will be Jill Quinn, founder of Dementia Forward, which is a local charity supporting families living with dementia. The event will also include a brief introduction to the SPECAL method – a specialist approach to dementia care used by the Carefound home care team through its relationship with the Contented Dementia Trust.
The SPECAL method is an innovative way of understanding dementia from the point of view of the person with the condition. The SPECAL Photograph Album and the three Golden Rules (don’t ask questions; listen to the expert; don’t contradict) contribute to providing a more practical way of supporting people with dementia and are the first steps towards well-being for life. All members of the Carefound home care team undertake basic training in the SPECAL method as part of their induction and it is viewed as hugely beneficial in improving the lives of clients they support with the condition.
This free event coincides with National Dementia Awareness Week (19 – 25 May) and is open to families, volunteers, health and social care professionals and any other organisations working in the community.
Please do join us at this event. Places are limited, so please RSVP at your earliest convenience.
