Winner – The Care Industry Awards

Tuesday, 22nd August 2017

A member of the Yorkshire live-in care team at Carefound Home Care has been announced as the winner of a national care award.

Each month the national care website, Care Industry News, recognises exceptional care staff throughout the UK celebrating the hard work and dedication delivered in adult care in care homes and home care. The award is only open to front line staff such as care workers and care managers who have made an impact in how care is delivered utilising their training or coming up with innovative ideas to improve the lives of the people they care for.

Gladys Ndangoh is a live-in carer at Carefound Home Care in Yorkshire and has been recognised for the support she has provided to her client living with dementia.

Gladys was nominated by Lorna Dawber, Home Care Manager at Carefound Home Care Harrogate, who said:

“I would like to put Gladys forward to receive an award as recognition for her hard work, respect and reliability she shows to her clients and co-workers, within her role as a Live-In Carer.

“At Carefound Home Care we pride ourselves in using the ‘SPECAL’ method, an analogy of a Photograph Album, to describe how the memory system works with people with a form of dementia. Gladys uses the method with ease and enhances her clients’ well-being, sees the person behind the dementia and ensures that positive outcomes are a priority.”

“Gladys has worked with us for over 3 years and during that time, always gracing the room with her bubbly personality and positive ‘can do’ attitude. With family consent, Gladys recently assisted her client  to arrange and host a birthday party, ensuring her client was ‘in control’ of the arrangements at all times and had the most amazing and satisfying time, showing non-verbal gratification to Gladys for many days after the event.”

“Gladys obviously enjoys her job and this is reflected in the very high standard of care that she delivers to each and every client. An award would support the recognition and praise that she deserves.”
