Live-in care in York helps Michael return to parkrun
Wednesday, 13th May 2026

After a serious cycling accident and a period of rehabilitation, Michael Hetherton from Malton has returned to Dalby Forest parkrun with the help of live-in care from Carefound Home Care York.
Michael first started going to Dalby Forest parkrun around 10 years ago and quickly became a familiar face in the community. After his accident in December 2024, one of his main goals was to get back to his much-loved Saturday routine.
With support from his friends, rehabilitation team and live-in care professionals from Carefound Home Care, Michael gradually rebuilt his strength and confidence. He now takes part in parkrun every weekend alongside his live-in care professional, Gavin.
As a well-known figure at parkrun, Michael said:
“Every week I look forward to parkrun. There is always someone helping from Pickering Running Club. If anyone wants to give it a try, it will be the best thing for them. I should say – give it a go.”
Lorna Miles, Registered Branch Manager at Carefound Home Care York, said:
“Watching Michael’s recovery has been incredible. He has regained his independence and his love for being active following his accident.”
“The Michael we see now is very nearly the Michael who was described to me during his assessment. Parkrun allows Michael and our care professionals to be part of the community, supporting his independence and enhancing his well-being.”
“Michael’s passion for being active can only benefit him while living with dementia. I am proud of both Michael and our live-in care professionals for all their hard work and dedication.”
