Dementia care professionals receive award for supporting client after road traffic accident

Two live-in care professionals have won Carefound Home Care’s prestigious PLATO award, recognising the life-changing support they provide to their client living with dementia.
Maria Brown and Barbara Tanyanyiwa are live-in care professionals at Carefound Home Care York and support their client, Michael Hetherton, with live-in care in Malton.
Michael, who lives with complex dementia, began receiving live-in care from Carefound Home Care having been in a serious road traffic accident.
Working closely with physiotherapists and other health professionals, Maria and Barbara have helped him rehabilitate and get back on his feet. He’s now back on his bike, reconnecting with friends, and even running 5k parkruns.
In recognition, they have won Carefound Home Care’s PLATO award, which involves staff from across the company voting for colleagues who have demonstrated their company values – Personalised, Local, Accountable, Together and Outstanding. Winners are celebrated and receive £100 in gift vouchers.
Maria and Barbara were praised for going above and beyond in listening to Michael as he speaks fondly of his many adventures and places he has visited. They have helped him reconnect with those cherished memories by getting him active and taking him on trips, allowing him to rediscover himself and truly enjoy life again.
